Let’s Grow the Trades
With an estimated 10 million global manufacturing jobs currently unfilled, the trade skill gap is an urgent challenge. That’s why we’re committing $30 million in grant money over five years to nonprofits – helping fund important vocational skills training and reskilling programs in construction and manufacturing. Together we can close the trade skill gap and help grow the trades.

[music]
2
00:00:01,953 --> 00:00:04,422
We are a nonprofit that runs
a training program that
3
00:00:04,601 --> 00:00:07,445
runs a training program that
empowers women and
4
00:00:07,555 --> 00:00:10,562
non-binary folks into
careers in construction.
5
00:00:10,891 --> 00:00:13,914
We all know that there is
a critical worker gap
6
00:00:14,102 --> 00:00:15,664
in this industry.
On top of that,
7
00:00:15,859 --> 00:00:18,117
there's a major gender gap.
Women only make up
8
00:00:18,445 --> 00:00:20,265
about 10% of the industry,
9
00:00:20,398 --> 00:00:23,296
and tradeswomen
only make up about 3%.
10
00:00:23,508 --> 00:00:25,984
The people actually doing the work,
they're not women,
11
00:00:26,375 --> 00:00:28,008
and that's what we're trying to
change.
12
00:00:28,289 --> 00:00:32,851
Hope Renovations brings a lot of
accessibility to trades training.
13
00:00:33,094 --> 00:00:35,320
A lot of folks,
including myself
14
00:00:36,266 --> 00:00:38,914
feel a little bit overwhelmed
15
00:00:39,352 --> 00:00:41,836
going into your standard
trades course.
16
00:00:42,148 --> 00:00:44,047
I get to work with a wonderful cohort
17
00:00:44,492 --> 00:00:47,398
of women and gender-diverse folks
18
00:00:47,633 --> 00:00:50,164
to really build my confidence
19
00:00:50,414 --> 00:00:53,531
in my skills before I have to
go out into that industry.
20
00:00:54,063 --> 00:00:56,484
Yes. When I do graduate
Hope Renovations,
21
00:00:56,586 --> 00:00:59,273
I do want to immediately start into
the trades still
22
00:00:59,422 --> 00:01:00,617
because it's better pay
23
00:01:01,359 --> 00:01:03,859
and what I make right now
is not enough.
24
00:01:04,617 --> 00:01:07,570
For women,
we don't get paid as much.
25
00:01:07,961 --> 00:01:10,938
In the trades,
a woman gets paid a lot more.
26
00:01:11,422 --> 00:01:13,851
The very best part of my job is
27
00:01:14,461 --> 00:01:16,656
watching the transformation that
happens
28
00:01:16,773 --> 00:01:18,094
for people that come into
our program,
29
00:01:18,195 --> 00:01:20,063
a lot of times,
not having ever slung a hammer
30
00:01:20,273 --> 00:01:23,109
or having very little understanding
of construction or the trades,
31
00:01:23,469 --> 00:01:26,023
and they're just taking
a chance because they see
32
00:01:26,093 --> 00:01:27,188
an opportunity for a better life.
33
00:01:28,273 --> 00:01:29,898
It's honestly hard to put into words.
34
00:01:30,109 --> 00:01:31,695
I was empowered,
35
00:01:32,383 --> 00:01:33,859
I gained confidence,
36
00:01:34,132 --> 00:01:36,187
really became passionate about
construction.
37
00:01:36,297 --> 00:01:37,945
I did not think that
38
00:01:38,500 --> 00:01:40,492
I just thought it was like,
"Hey, I'll do this,
39
00:01:40,563 --> 00:01:43,531
it's free, it's in my hometown,"
kind of thing,
40
00:01:43,898 --> 00:01:49,593
and it turned into this whole
pushing me into a different career,
41
00:01:50,507 --> 00:01:52,000
just helping my whole life.
42
00:01:52,563 --> 00:01:55,085
Having a trusted name and
a trusted partner
43
00:01:55,203 --> 00:01:57,094
like Stanley Black & Decker
behind you
44
00:01:57,422 --> 00:01:59,117
makes all the difference
in the world.
45
00:01:59,406 --> 00:02:01,625
Backing us and saying, "Hey,
we believe in what you're doing.
46
00:02:01,945 --> 00:02:04,438
We like what you're doing and
we want to see more of this,"
47
00:02:05,078 --> 00:02:07,492
that really helps us grow and
it helps us expand
48
00:02:07,539 --> 00:02:09,125
our impact in the community.
